DAY 4 PART 3
HOLY GROUND!! It is my first visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and I would like to amaze you with some crazy facts- The track is in speedway Indiana not in Indianapolis, the track was built as a testing ground for the many auto makers in Indiana and the race was created to promote the public to purchase what they saw. The first race was a mess since the track was dirt and some other strange mixes of surfacing, that next winter the track was lined with bricks and that is why we call it the Brickyard!! One of the original owners was James Allison better known for prestolite auto products and Allison experimental- aircraft engines, now merged with Rolls Royce and transmissions which was taken by GM! Eddie Rickenbacker, yes the WWII fighter plane ace bought the track later on, he was a race car driver before he mounted a military plane. The collection is fantastic and the museum is well done!
My next stop was gaining access to a top secret location to photograph some experimental scientific stuff! Ok Rolls Royce has a heritage exhibit, but I did need a pass to get in!!
Allison/rolls Royce merger and now here we have v12 P51 fighter plane engines, Concorde and Harrier jet engines and we all thought Chrysler was the only Turbine car builders?
TALK ABOUT RARE - WHERE IS THE TURBINE POWER PLANT INSTALLED?
A 1991 Chevy Caprice of course!!
